Pedestrian killed in unincorporated Whittier collision

WHITTIER — The Medical Examiner's office Sunday released the name of a pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a pickup in the Whittier area.

The death of 29-year-old Daniel Cortez was an accident, the Medical Examiner's office stated. He died from blunt trauma.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to Marquardt Avenue and Imperial Highway at 10:24 p.m. Friday and learned Cortez had been struck on Imperial by a Toyota Tacoma, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

Cortez was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, the ME's office stated..

The CHP is investigating the crash.
