Norwalk High unveils state-of-the-art athletic facility

Norwalk High School celebrated a major milestone on Dec. 3 with the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art athletic facility. Erickson-Hall Construction Co., in partnership with the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew more than 500 students, families, and community members to commemorate the occasion.

The 43,000-square-foot facility marks the culmination of years of planning and construction, funded through Measure G, a $375 million education bond approved by voters in 2014. The complex includes a gymnasium, dance and cheer rooms, wrestling and weight rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, and auxiliary spaces. This facility completes the school’s athletic complex, which also features a stadium and surrounding fields that opened in October 2024.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the completion of this world-class athletic complex, a project that truly reflects our commitment to our current and future students,” said Estuardo Santillan, Interim Superintendent of Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. “This facility will provide students and families with a space to thrive, stay active and achieve their aspirations for generations to come. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Erickson-Hall for their partnership in turning this vision into a reality.”

The project highlights the district’s dedication to enhancing student experiences and fostering community engagement. Throughout the planning and construction phases, community input and support were instrumental in bringing the vision to life.

Mat Gates, President of Erickson-Hall Construction Co., expressed pride in the collaborative effort that made the facility possible. “Collaborating with Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District on this project has been an honor,” Gates said. “This new athletic facility underscores our shared commitment to creating exceptional spaces that empower students to reach their full potential, both on and off the field. We’re thrilled to celebrate this achievement with the Norwalk community.”

The grand opening marks the beginning of a new era for Norwalk High School, as students and families now have access to a premier athletic facility designed to support physical fitness, team spirit, and academic success.

As attendees toured the facility during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the excitement and pride in the air were palpable, signaling the positive impact the complex will have on the community for years to come.
