Norwalk celebrates renovated main library
NORWALK – Supervisor Janice Hahn, city officials, and members of the public celebrating the reopening of the newly renovated Norwalk Library with an open house on Wednesday.
The renovation was made possible through LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn’s 4th Supervisorial District Capital Fund. The $4 million project broke ground in late February last year, and completed on March 1.
The library reopened its doors on May 10 for select in-person services as part of the library’s phased reopening.
Renovations included a new floor plan and layout, featuring new furniture and shelving, two new group study rooms, a new circulation desk with interior book drop, dedicated children’s and teen library areas, dedicated early learning space, a refurbished veteran’s resource center, a refurbished Californian collection room, new flooring and paint throughout, and new ADA compliant public restrooms and family restroom.
Improvements to the building’s exterior, such as a new ADA accessible ramp from the parking lot to the library entrance and new ADA compliant handrails at existing exterior stairs, were also made.
Library visitors can also look forward to a host of new available technology, including nine adult computers, nine homework center computers, and two early learning computers, USB/power outlets at all reading tables, new laptop vending machine with 12 laptops for in-library public use, and three self-checkout machines.
Norwalk Mayor Jennifer Perez encouraged all residents to come experience the library first hand.
“It’s bright, it’s big, it’s beautiful, and it’s waiting for our residents,” said Perez. “Take the opportunity tomorrow, during the summer to come on down and visit, and enjoy all that the new library and the new programming has to offer.”
LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn said that “people have really missed their libraries.”
“This library has new and improved technology and resources that will meet the changing needs of the residents of Norwalk,” said Hahn.
