NORWALK - The Cerritos City Council recently presented a proclamation to Cerritos College in honor of its 65th anniversary on Sept. 17.

In 1955, citizens of Bellflower, Downey, Norwalk, La Mirada, Artesia, Bloomfield and Carmenita school districts voted to form a junior college district, which eventually evolved into Cerritos College.

The college serves southeastern Los Angeles communities, including Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, La Mirada, Norwalk and portions of Bell Gardens, Lakewood, Long Beach, Santa Fe Springs and South Gate.

Located in Norwalk, Cerritos College offers degrees and certificates in more than 180 areas of study in nine divisions, and enrolls approximately 21,000 diverse students.

The college says it is “committed to providing high quality, comprehensive instructional programs and support services that improve student success and offer clear pathways to achieve personal, educational and career goals.”
