Harry Kent Evans
July 16, 1935 - January 20, 2021
85 years old, resident of Cerritos, passed on January 20, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital of Long Beach of Covid-19.
Harry attended Torrance High school and was proud to have played for the Tartars Varsity football squad.
Born July 16,1935 in Long Beach to Harry C. And Elizabeth Evans. Harry had 4 siblings Jean Phelps, Joan Amsberry, Jane Covey and Thomas Evans who all preceded him in death.
Harry married Theresa Marie Maure on November 24,1955. They remained together 52 years until her passing in 2007. Harry served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957, and then served in the Army reserves from 1957 to 1961. Harry was issued “Expert” status with firearms. He was also issued a National Defense Service Medal for his service during the Korean Conflict.
Harry worked for North American Rockwell / Autonetics division, where he found a passion for Union Activism. He followed that passion and grew his career with world class organizations. The United Auto Workers (UAW), American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), and after 25 years retired from the Director’s Guild of America (DGA). Harry worked in an executive capacity in all of the unions he served.
Harry leaves behind 4 children: Harry C. Evans 2nd, Cindy VanLaar, Laura Lynn Coward and Scott Evans. 8 Grandchildren: Jered VanLaar, Angela De La Cerda, Ashley Atkinson, Carl Moore Jr., Sara Evans, Savannah Ortiz, Jordan Ancona and Taylor Ancona. 5 Great Grandchildren: Haley VanLaar, Camron VanLaar, Isabelle VanLaar, Lyric Ma and Symphony Stewart.
Harry resided in the California City’s of Torrance, Paramount, Artesia, LaPuente, Norwalk, Rialto, and Cerritos throughout his life. Harry also called Livonia, Michigan home in the early 70s. He will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino, Ca.
