Maria Teresa Farfán Blamey
June 24, 1929 - May 4, 2020
On the morning of May 4, 2020, our beloved mother, Maria Teresa Farfán Blamey passed on. Born June 24, 1929 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, she lived the majority of her life in Southern California. Widowed twice, she became an American citizen in 1984, and took great pride in her citizenship. Her legacy continues with her six children, Mary Lou, Carmen, Sylvia, James, Gloria, Edward, sixteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren whose family and professional accomplishments she was especially proud of. Her children ran fire departments, retired from a police department, worked for the LA county school district in special education, executed mortgage transactions at major banks, engaged in developing a successful family business, taught and led in major universities of the United States.
She was an expert seamstress, exceptional cook, a gifted soprano, who not only enjoyed opera, but also classical piano, big band era jazz, dance, and traditional music from Mexico. She was truly engaged with the betterment of her local community as a volunteer for the Norwalk senior citizen center who honored her with numerous awards that acknowledged her commitment.
Her caring presence will be greatly missed by family. She was a loving mother, dedicated to her family, especially in her final years. She will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.
