Paramount councilmember Cuellar Stallings appointed to library commission
PARAMOUNT — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has appointed Paramount City Council member Vilma Cuellar Stallings to the County’s Library Commission.
The Los Angeles County Library Commission is tasked with advising the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian on matters of library policy, administration, operation, and service.
Stallings is retired from a 30-year career as a librarian with the Paramount Unified School District. She is a member of the Paramount/Tepic Sister Cities organization and the Paramount Heritage Parade Committee. With her husband, Danny, she has two daughters and five grandchildren.
“Who better than a former librarian to provide the advice and guidance that will ensure our local libraries get the investment and support they need?” said Hahn. “Vilma has been an exceptional public servant for Paramount, she understands the unmatched value that libraries hold for our communities, and this Commission will be so enriched by her voice.”
Stallings is a lifelong Paramount resident and graduate of Paramount High School. In 2020 she was elected to the Paramount City Council and has served one term as mayor.
She currently serves as the appointed president of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments Board of Directors and is the City’s representative on the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, the Clean Power Alliance, the City Council/Paramount School District Ad Hoc Committee, the Landscaped Median Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee, and the Paramount Historical Society.
"Thank you, Supervisor Hahn, for this incredible opportunity to serve on the County Library Commission. As a former librarian, I am deeply honored to continue my commitment to promoting literacy and community engagement. I look forward to working together to ensure our libraries remain vibrant resources for all,” said Stallings.
In July, Hahn joined Stallings as well as other leaders and residents of Paramount to celebrate the grand reopening of the Paramount Library following a $4.8 million renovation.
