Cerritos high schoolers win two trophies at Model UN conference

CERRITOS – The Cerritos City Council presented a proclamation to Cerritos High School last week for its winning performance at the 49th annual National High School Model United Nations Conference in New York in March.

The event provided high school students with unique opportunities to explore global problems in an interactive setting.

Under the direction of advisor Jason Watanabe, the Cerritos High MUN team represented Japan and United Arb Emirates, clinching the Award of Distinction in Debate and the Award of Distinction in Research & Preparation.

Representatives of the Japan team included Kate An, Nikhil Bhakta, Jacob Cha, Ben Giordano, Mukta Dalal, Alisha Khan, Olivia Mendoza, Michal Mengistu, Madeline Jean Miranda, Shawn Nguyen, Tripura Sai, Yash Samineni, Khushi Sharma, Siddhartha Suresh, Sophia Wainwright and Yikai Zhu.

Representatives of the United Arb Emirates team consisted of Brooke Donar, Jonathan Guerrero, Xavier Juarez, Aaron Kim, Evan Kishiyama, Andrew Martinez, Shay Perna, Adarsh Saranathan, Logan So and Preston Yi.
