Mosquito tests positive for West Nile virus in Norwalk
NORWALK – A mosquito collected in Norwalk tested positive for West Nile virus, officials announced.
The virus can cause fever, headache, body aches, nausea and skin rash. It is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Thirty infected mosquitoes have been detected this year by the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District.
Residents can reduce their chances of exposure by eliminating standing water around their homes, reporting neglected swimming pools to their vector control district, and wearing insect repellent when outdoors where mosquitoes may be present.
