2002 champion Norwalk Pony team reuniting Saturday

NORWALK – A 20-year celebration will take place Saturday at Holifield Park remembering the 13-14 year old’s 2002 Norwalk All-Star Pony League World Champions.

The champions, who won the title in Washington, Pennsylvania, that year will be represented by a few of the members of the team, along with coaches.

The ceremony will take place at 11 am.

Former coach Tony Rivas, who has since passed away, will be represented by his son Gabriel Schwulst and family members and they will have his jersey on display.

Other team members Jimmy Buentello, Jr. and coaches Frankie Sanchez and Ruben Velazquez are expected to be in attendance.

Some additional members of the winning team are: Jorge Sanchez, Victor Sanchez, Eddie Murray, Frank Lucero, Anthony Zarco, Anthony Topete and Jesus Cabrillo.

Norwalk Mayor Rick Ramirez is expected to throw out the first pitch and there will be a fund-raising raffle for the program.

There will be food and merchandise vendors and games will be played throughout the day.
