Norwalk lays out CARES spending plan
NORWALK - Norwalk will spend $1.3 million in CARES funds to offset some of the costs of the Coronavirus, staff told council at their meeting Tuesday.
Of the sum, Public health expenses will receive an estimated $581,504, which includes communication/enforcement of public health orders, acquisition of medical, protective, and cleaning supplies for public health and safety staff, disinfection of public areas, technical assistance on mitigation, public safety measures in response to COID-19, and quarantining individuals.
Compliance and mitigation will receive $407,523, which includes telework capabilities for staff, paid sick, family and medical leave, and care for the homeless and other vulnerable population.
Economic support will receive $150,532, followed by substantially dedicated payroll expenses ($139,893) and medical expenses ($25,850).
Staff also requested $94,787 from the Department of Justice grant awarded to the city for partial reimbursement of COVID-19 related expenses incurred in the previous fiscal year, which has already been approved. They will also seek reimbursement from the FEMA Public Assistance Grant in an estimated total of $339,308.
