Rep. Sanchez dominates while Cerritos College and NLMUSD races prove tight

NORWALK - Tuesday’s election provided an emphatic win for 38th District Rep. Linda Sanchez.

Sanchez seized a commanding lead early and never looked back, ultimately earning 132,234 (74.69%) votes as of Wednesday morning.

Her opponent, Michael Tolar, garnered 44,818 (25.31%) votes.

For the Cerritos Community College Board of Trustees, Candidate Mariana Pacheco and Martha Camacho-Rodriguez engaged in a tight contest, with the former taking a slight lead around 9:30 p.m. Pacheco would ever-so-slightly increase on this lead heading into midnight.

As of Wednesday morning, Pacheco led with 6,782 (41.23%) votes, while Camacho-Rodriguez trailed at 6,447 (39.19%).

Candidate Mazen Nabulsi was never able to keep pace with his two opponents. He ultimately sat at 3,221 (19.58%) at the time of writing.

In an astonishingly tight race for the Norwalk La Mirada School District, incumbents Karen Morrison and Jesse Urquidi and candidate Cristopher Staples looked poised to claim the district’s three available seats, leaving Jose Rios out in the cold.

The entire night saw all candidates almost dead even.

Staples currently leads the pack at 15,566 (26.14%), with Morrison and Urquidi following at 15,496 (26.02%) and 14,532 (24.40%) respectively. Rios trailed behind with 13,965 (23.45%).
