NORWALK — This week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved plans for a major refurbishment of the Norwalk Library. The vote also approved the transfer of $4 million of Supervisor Janice Hahn’s 4th Supervisorial District Capital Funds to go towards the project.

The Los Angeles County Development Authority will oversee the construction and development of the Project as it now goes to bids following Tuesday’s vote.

“The Norwalk Library has been a community resource for decades and it’s time it gets a little TLC,” said Supervisor Hahn. “The Norwalk community deserves a modern, world class library and later this year they will have one. We hope to get this entire project done by November, but in the meantime, we are going to make sure residents continue to have easy access to library services.”

The refurbishment will include minor interior demolition, carpet, paint, refurbishment of public areas, upgrades to ADA restrooms, selected areas for furniture and shelving, and a new circulation desk.

Construction is planned to begin in April. The Norwalk Library will close in mid-March, whereupon a triple-wide modular will open at the site, ensuring seamless service to the Norwalk community.

Construction is expected to be completed by late November 2020 with a grand re-opening scheduled for December.
