Norwalk twins overcome odds to find success

NORWALK -Field of Dreams Learning has been helping the youth of Norwalk and the surrounding communities.

Here we have Nick and Nicole, twins that are exemplary citizens of Norwalk. They once struggled to make it to school and lost interest in schooling. However, due to their persistence and hard work, they are both on their way to start college at Cerritos College. Nick wants to explore career options but is gearing towards carpentry, and Nicole is set on being a registered nurse.

As FoDL has remained small, it has been through word of mouth that these two outstanding individuals learned about FoDL. As Nick described, the air at the facility was “thinner,” as he was able to focus on his work and build a secure connection with the teachers. Before lunch, Nick, Nicole, and many of the other students would play basketball with some of the staff.

Aside from achieving their high school diploma, both benefited from other services that FoDL provides. Due to the construction academy, both of them are now OSHA certified. W

ith the daily challenges of being a teen, they were able to use the support from the volunteering Masters of Social Workers (MSWs) that came in weekly. They were able to understand their career possibilities through the onsite college advisor better.

Due to their graduation status, they have secured two years of free tuition at Cerritos College. They have obtained work through another strong partnership with SELACO.

Nick and Nicole have a bright future. Everyone involved with FoDL is proud of these two individuals, and we wish them the best. We hope that they continue on their bright future so that one day they can give back to their community.
